Keep Your Car Out of Our Shop With These Top Car Maintenance Tips

It’s probably not something you’d expect to hear from us, but we want to help you keep your car out of our shop! Not because we don’t love seeing your smiling face, but because we know how annoying it is when your car acts up. You rely on it to drive your kids to school, commute to work, and run errands around Tucson. When it’s not working (or not working properly) you’re understandably frustrated.

The best way to keep your car out of our work bays is to keep it properly maintained. Here are some of our top car maintenance tips so your car lasts you longer and costs you less to run.

  1. Keep track of your oil changes.

If you come into our shop, you’ll get a sticker in the upper left corner of your windshield. On it, you’ll see a date and mileage. Don’t let your car go past either the date or the mile marker before you get your next oil change.

Living in Tucson, your car is exposed to dirt, debris, and dust. If you’re running your car on dirty oil, this debris could get in your engine causing it to fail faster. With regular oil changes, you keep your car running smoother and cleaner, which will also make it run longer.

  1. Rotate your tires.

Your tires are one of the most crucial parts of your car’s safety. Without properly maintaining them, you risk your tire blowing out or going flat. To prolong the life of your tires, have them rotated with each oil change. This way, you spread the wear and tear of the tire evenly over time.

  1. Weatherize your car.

Don’t let Tucson’s temperate weather trick you. It’s still important to weatherize your car – or at least check on its condition with each change of season. In the summer, you want to ensure you have enough coolant. In the winter, if you plan to drive anywhere with snow, such as Pinteop or Ruidoso, check your tires to make sure they can handle the slick roads. Be aware of the conditions where you’re driving to keep your car safe.

  1. Get it washed regularly.

The dusty roads and debris from driving through the Houghton construction is enough to damage the underbelly of your car. Getting it washed regularly will keep the dust out of your engine so your car runs smoother for longer.

  1. Don’t ignore recalls.

If your car is ever recalled for any reason, act! Don’t wait for something to go wrong. Get your car into your dealer to get the problem fixed. It’ll keep you safer and it’ll help your car drive optimally for longer.

BONUS: Never, ever ignore a check engine light.

These are one of the most telling lights on your car’s dashboard. If it’s on, get your car into our Rita Ranch auto shop as soon as possible to diagnose what’s happening below the hood. It might be something as simple as a loose gas cap, or it could be something more serious. Don’t take any chances that it’s the latter of the two scenarios.
