Road Trip to Bisbee, Arizona

Did you know that we have one of the United States best historic small towns right in our backyard? Bisbee was named the best historic small town in the country by USA Today.

Perhaps best known for its mining days, Bisbee has drifted away from its past and into the modern era with more attractions for the entire family. From art districts and haunted houses to regular family festivals, this town of less than 25,000 people is a bustling hot spot for visitors.

Here are some of our favorite things to see and do when we visit Bisbee.

Tour the Mine

No trip is complete to Bisbee without a tour of the Queen Mine. The city was put on the map by the mining industry and now, this mine is visited by thousands of tourists each year. Be ready to wear headlamps and miners gear as you make your way through the 18th and 19th century mining area. You’ll really feel like you’re taking a step back in time as you’re led through the mine by former miners.

Stay at the Copper Queen Hotel

It’s no secret that Halloween is our favorite holiday, so it shouldn’t surprise you that one of our favorite things to do in Bisbee is get spooked.

The Copper Queen Hotel is notorious for being haunted. The New York Times calls this a hotel where some guests have been dead for years. Living guests who stay there for a weekend frequently walk away with ghost stories of their own. It’s a frequent stop on the many ghost tours through the town and for good reason. There are just too many incidents that have gone unexplained to be anything other than spirits from the past coming back to haunt the living. Do you dare stay there?

Shop, Shop, Shop

If ghost stories aren’t quite your thing, you will probably find more pleasure in walking around the many shops. Although the town is best known for its copper, the shopping is much more diverse in Bisbee. You can find quirky items and plenty of antiques to bring home with you by taking a stroll through the shops on Main Street. If nothing else, you’ll be entertained by everything there is for sale.

Have a Frosty

Bisbee has moved into the modern age with its very own microbreweries – the Old Bisbee Brewing Company and Beast Brewing. If you’re in the heart of the city, stop into the Old Bisbee Brewing Company for a cold drink and a bite to eat. If you’re a true beer fan, take a quick drive South to explore the dark beers at Beast Brewing.
